Meet Our Staff

  Joey Scherschel, Owner/Director

My name is Joey Scherschel but most children usually call me Jo-Jo.  I started in child care in January of 96 working as the Department Head of Dunn Memorial Hospitals three child care facilities.  In March of 2001, Dunn closed their facilities and I leased a building from Dunn for the next 5 years providing child care.  In August 2005 construction started at our current location and we opened the doors in December 2005.

I have attended hundreds of hours of trainings on child development and early childhood topics over the years.  I received my Child Development Associative Credential in 1999 from Ivy Tech State College and hold my Bachelors from
Indiana University.

I was born and raised here in
Lawrence County and I have one sister Stormi Scherschel Jones and I have one nephew Jett and a niece Mallorie.  My one only child, Kade, was born in 2008 and he is a papaw's boy.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, boating, and scrap booking.  I absolutely love my job.  Children are my passion.

  Jamie Chastain, Assistant Director

My name is Jamie Chastain. I have been married to my husband, Chuck, since 1991. We have 3 boys; Tanner, Tucker, and Trey. I was born and raised in Bedford, IN. I graduated in 1987 from BNLHS. Before starting in the Early Childhood field, I worked at a local restaurant for 15 years. When my youngest started first grade, I decided I would like to pursue a career in Early Childhood. I worked as a Director’s Assistant for another child development center for 2 years before starting at Where Futures Begin in August of 2006. I received my Child Development Associate Credential in May 2009 and I attend at least 20 hours of trainings or conferences every year. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, fishing, and racing. I have chosen this career path because I want to make a difference in the lives of children. I want to help, love, encourage, and teach children.

  Bernie Scherschel, Financial Manager

After almost 39 years, I retired from General Motors.  I have years of experience as Manufacturing Manager, Quality Manager, and Engineering Manager.  I was excited about relaxing, golfing, and spending time with my grandchildren. When my oldest daughter, Joey, opened the new facility I started helping her out with the business paper work so that she could spend more time in the classroom. You can find me in the office on most days after my golf tee time. I also pickup and take the kindergarten children to and from school, am responsible for minor maintenance work, and for lawn.  Most of the kids call me “Papaw Bernie” because of hearing my own grandchildren calling me that. I graduated from Purdue University with an Engineering Degree many years ago. My other daughters name is Stormi and I have two grandchildren, Jett & Kade.
